The Danielson clan has returned from another awesome trip out west to see our Colorado relatives! This is the first Thanksgiving that Shane has spent with his family since he was a senior in high school! Everyone was very excited to spend some family time together, but like always, the days flew by too quickly.
The travel to and from Colorado was definitely our best trip yet. Not coincidentally, this is the first time we’ve flown with the boys when they’ve had their own seats. Before age 2, they can sit on your lap (for free) and we definitely milked that for as long as we could. This time around, we each took a boy and sat across the aisle from one another. Wyatt was entertained by ice chips, snacks, Skymall magazine and episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba on my Kindle. Caleb actually snuggled up on Shane’s lap and slept for a good chunk of our outbound flight. As I was furiously shuffling entertainment for Wyatt, I watched with envy as Shane had 1, then 2 cups of coffee, followed by a Bloody Mary with a cuddly Caleb snoozing away.
Once we got there, we spent some time with the great-grandparents, cousins, aunt and uncle and of course their beloved, Mima & Boppie (Shane’s parents, for those not in the know). After lunch, we made our way up to the farm to say hi to the cows and take a spin in Boppie’s tractor. The boys (especially Caleb) had a blast! The cows seemed spooked at first, but definitely warmed up!
On Thanksgiving, we had a professional photographer come and take family pictures. I knew my kids wouldn’t likely smile on command, but I wasn’t expecting Caleb to not even want to face the camera! All he wanted was to suck his thumb and rest on Shane’s shoulder facing in the opposite direction of the photographer. Oh well. I’m anxious to see how they turned out!
Other highlights of our trip included a trip to an awesome park, a date night for Shane and I, a horse-drawn carriage ride, a (semi-successful) visit to see Santa and a lights parade! We had a fabulous time and as always, can’t wait to return! Thanks to our Colorado family for their generosity and hospitality!
