A Visit from Mima & Boppie

The best part about the boys getting older is that they’re remembering family members and friends that they spend time with and when we told the boys that their Mima and Boppie were coming to visit, they were super excited. We all love when Shane’s parents are able to come visit and we know Colorado is a long way from Maryland so we definitely appreciate it. Shane and I were able to sneak away on a date night and also for a glorious hour of playing tennis (even though he beat me and I’m a terrible sport).

Their visit was packed full of really fun activities… so much fun in fact that there’s little photographic evidence that they even took place. We went to a splash park not far from our house. It was our first visit and the place was packed on a Friday morning! There was a special area for the smaller kiddos with short slides, a big water mushroom and lots and lots of sprinklers to run through.

The following day, we went up to Baltimore to explore their beautiful aquarium and got to see lots of “colorful fish and toothy sharks” (as quoted by our Goodnight Maryland Book.) The new Blacktip Reef exhibit is spectacular. I was just reliving the experience on the National Aquarium website where they have a LIVE SHARK CAM! So cool! We also got to enjoy a seafood feast in the cute Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore. Such a fun day!

One day we went to the fabulous South Germantown Recreational Park and spent a long time exploring the huge playground. Wyatt loved the “jumpy bridge” and anything with a steering wheel, while Caleb enjoyed a huge xylophone and a saucer-type swing. The long weekend flew by and before we knew it, Mima and Boppie were on a plane back to Colorado. As always, we had a wonderful time while they were here and so appreciate their generosity and guidance. Come back soon!

I'm a working mom of three fantastic boys: Caleb, Wyatt and Parker. My husband, Shane, and I live in the Washington DC suburbs where we enjoy playgrounds, pools and never getting to sleep in. This blog is a journal of our day-to-day lives as well as a chronicle of Caleb's progress after a recent spinal surgery to alleviate the effects of his cerebral palsy.
