Fire House Tour!

When I was planning the boys’ 2nd birthday party, I made contact with our local fire station to see if they would be able to bring the firetruck to our house. I had everything lined up, but predictably, an emergency must have come out around the same time as the party and the truck never showed. I was pretty disappointed but luckily I hadn’t told the boys or many of the guests for fear of that exact situation. A few days later, the firefighter I had originally spoke with, Chad, reached out to me and was very sorry that they weren’t able to come to the party. As a consolation, he offered to give the boys a special VIP, private tour of the fire house! We went this past Saturday and it was AWESOME! I seriously think it made the boys’ entire week!

We got to see where the calls come in, where the firefighters spend their down time, and where they sleep, cook and eat. Shane and I were both very impressed with the modern facilities in the recently constructed building and the cool murals on the walls.

Of course, the absolute highlight of the tour was a trip to the bay to see the fire truck and fire engine. The boys were very excited and they both got their turn to sit in the driver’s seat. They even got to sit high up in the rear driver seat of a huge ladder truck. Both boys were pressing every button they could possibly reach, so they were in heaven. Once we were finally able to drag the boys away from the trucks, they were given each a fire hat and a coloring book.

I can’t say enough nice things about firefighter Chad and everyone at Station 34 in Germantown! We had a blast!

I'm a working mom of three fantastic boys: Caleb, Wyatt and Parker. My husband, Shane, and I live in the Washington DC suburbs where we enjoy playgrounds, pools and never getting to sleep in. This blog is a journal of our day-to-day lives as well as a chronicle of Caleb's progress after a recent spinal surgery to alleviate the effects of his cerebral palsy.
